I am using AVG and it’s really good, but it’s true that I haven’t tried any other just because I am one heck of a lazy person. AVG tells me my PC is doing fine I believe my free buddy AVG.

AVG Anti-Virus Free Edition

AVG is offering their premium edition with one month trial version, if you are cheap enough to use software for one month and then say thanks and no thanks then this offer is for you, at the end of one month your package automatically changes to free version.

• Supported windows version: Windows 2000 / XP / Vista / Windows7 / XP64 / Vista64 / Windows7 … I wonder why they still put windows 2000 up there. I haven’t seen any one these days using windows 2000.
• Latest version is 9.something, I am sure they won’t give you old version.

I have read loads of good things about Avast Free Anti virus.

Only drawback that I have read is that it’s a bit slow. But my theory is that PCs are slow not the software. If you have a core2duo this one is for you.

Clamwin free antivirus.

Pros of using Clamwin: It’s easy to handle, very stable and pretty fast in scanning. It scans faster than avast. It’s bigger than most of antivirus in this list so there is lots of stuff packed in this package.

Cons of using Clamwin: real time protection is missing, so you have to be a bit careful when doing data transfer. But absence of real time protection makes you PC fast but using less RAM.

Gamers should have this one installed for them.

PC Tools AntiVirus Free Edition

This Free Anti-virus is pretty much like its competitors up there but the installation file is a bigger. So we can say that it has more juice in it. But overall it’s just another free antivirus. Easy to use, light, protects from all basic threats what else do you want from a free ware.

A good quality antivirus with an incredibly light scanner, While you access internet or browse through your computer, you can scan with PCtools, it is extremely easy to use, Recommended to users who don’t usually use antivirus, It even has phone support so when ever this free ware has a problem you can call the manufacturer and get free support.

Dr.Web CureIt

FREE anti virus and anti spyware scanner based on the Dr.Web best-of-breed engine with the most up-to-date add-ons to the Dr.Web virus bases.

Although it’s a free antivirus but it’s not that good. Works for few people but there are some complaints that it leaves behind some viruses. It’s also smaller and doesn’t have good automatic update services. Rests of the features are quite reliable.

It doesn’t contain any Firewall or malware remover, but still if you want simplicity, Dr.Web Cureit can be a good option. All window versions are supported, I am not sure about windows 7.
